Onion Rings

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 large white onion, peeled and sliced into rings


  • 5 tbsp plain flour


  • 5 tbsp cornflour/potato starch


  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika


  • 1 tsp salt


  • 1 tsp pepper


  • Approx. 200ml lager (or sparkling water)


  • 150g panko breadcrumbs


  • Oil for frying

  • Dip ingredients


  • 4 tbsp mayo


  • 1 tbsp buttermilk or sour cream


  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard


  • 1 garlic clove minced


  • 1 tbsp finely chopped chives




RECIPE

  1. Make the batter by combining the flour, cornflour, salt, pepper and paprika in a bowl whisk the dry ingredients to combine then whisk in the beer until you get a thick coating batter


  2. Dip the onion rings into the batter then into the breadcrumbs completely covering


  3. Heat your oil to approx. 160c and fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown they should take about 4-5 mins


  4. Drain on a wire rack


  5. To make the dip simply mix all the ingredients well


  6. Slut this up to the max by adding crispy bacon bits to the dip
